spread good in the world doing what you love

Artist Statement: From its color and weight to texture and opacity, paper has always enthralled me with its variations and possibilities. Long before kindergarten, I was making and selling artwork and paper snowflakes to my parents. Though thrilled to win an award for my creative poster promoting Right to Read week in elementary school, I instead chose to focus my education on academics. After a stint as editor of my high school newspaper, I set out to achieve a degree in Journalism from the University of Akron, however, after my first college writing class, I realized that what I enjoyed about being editor was developing page layouts and I soon switched my concentration to art – specifically Graphic Design. I discovered a local paper store and began to make cards and stationery as family gifts. After graduating with an Honors Bachelor of Art degree in 1996, I started my graphic design career as the sole designer of a two-person firm. It wasn’t long before I began developing card designs and was selling them at a friend’s coffee shop. I now run my own design business and, while digital design projects continue to be exciting and challenging, I greatly appreciate the hands-on, creative time spent crafting my one card shy line knowing the joy they bring to those who give and receive them. – Lorelei Greifenstein - card•ee•ologist
